Why older employees engage in less counterproductive work behavior and in more organizational citizenship behavior: Examining the role of the HEXACO personality traits

Meta-analytic research has established that age exhibits a small negative correlation with counterproductive work behavior (CWB) and positive organizational citizenship (OCB). However, there is lack of examining why these relations exist, although it been proposed age-related changes in personality traits might explain relations. Personality are generally assumed to be relatively stable, but do occur across the adult lifespan: Especially those domains predictive CWB OCB change increasing age. In line arguments, current meta-analytic results (k = 18) demonstrate HEXACO Honesty-Humility, Emotionality, Conscientiousness mediate relation between CWB, Conscientiousness, Openness Experience OCB. These provide evidence can two dimensions contextual job performance. Limitations ideas for future discussed.
